What this covers
This policy explains how ReelShort Maker & Saver ("we," "us") handles information when you use ReelShort Maker & Saver ("the app") on iPhone and iPad. By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
ReelShort Maker & Saver is built to work with your photos and videos entirely on your device wherever possible. We collect a limited set of data to keep the app running smoothly and to improve it over time:
- Usage data - which tools you interact with, such as voiceover generation, filters, or effects, so we can understand what's working.
- Diagnostics - crash reports and performance data used to fix bugs and improve stability.
We do not collect the content of the clips or photos you edit unless you explicitly choose to send them through an in-app AI feature, such as AI voiceover generation.
Face and person segmentation
ReelShort Maker & Saver does not collect biometric identifiers, Face ID data, TrueDepth data, facial landmarks, facial geometry, face templates, facial embeddings, or information used to identify or authenticate a person.
When you select a photo or video and choose Remove Background or Cut out, the app temporarily processes the pixels of that media, which may include a human face. Apple's Vision framework runs on your device to create a temporary foreground or person-segmentation mask. The app uses that mask only to separate the selected subject from the background for the editing operation you requested.
Face-related image pixels and segmentation masks used by this feature are processed entirely on your device. They are not transmitted to our servers, uploaded to a cloud service, shared with analytics or advertising providers, sold, used for marketing, used to identify anyone, used to build a profile, or used to train machine-learning models. Analytics may record only that the background-removal tool or a particular removal mode was selected; it does not receive the photo, video, mask, or face data.
AI voiceovers & cloud features
Most editing in ReelShort Maker & Saver - trimming, filters, effects, and animation - happens entirely on your device. If you use a cloud-based feature such as AI voiceover generation, the script or audio you submit is sent securely for processing and is not retained afterward or used to train models without your separate consent.
Tracking
Usage data and diagnostics may be used to track app performance and, where applicable, advertising effectiveness across apps and websites operated by other companies. You can opt out of tracking at any time in your device's Settings under Privacy & Security → Tracking.
How we use your information
We use the data described above to operate and maintain the app, diagnose and fix technical issues, understand feature usage so we can prioritize improvements, and, in the free version, serve relevant advertising.
Data sharing
We share limited usage and diagnostic data with analytics and infrastructure partners who help us operate the app. We require service providers that receive this data to use it only for the services described in this policy and to provide the same or equivalent protection. We do not sell your personal content, clips, or photos to third parties. Photos, videos, segmentation masks, and face data processed by Remove Background or Cut out are not shared with any third party.
Storage, retention, and deletion
Temporary foreground and person-segmentation masks and processed previews are held only in volatile memory on your device while needed for editing or export. They are not stored as separate biometric or face-data records and are cleared when the relevant editor state is reset or the app terminates. Because this data is not transmitted to us, we have no server-side face data to retain or delete.
Photos and videos you add to a project may be stored locally in the app's private storage as part of a project or draft until you delete that project or uninstall the app. Media you choose to export remains in your Photos library until you delete it using the Photos app. Deleting a project removes its locally stored project media, and uninstalling the app removes its locally stored projects, drafts, and temporary processing data.
Your choices
You control face and person segmentation by choosing whether to use Remove Background or Cut out. You can stop this processing by leaving the feature, remove locally stored media by deleting the relevant project or draft, delete exported media in the Photos app, or remove all locally stored app data by uninstalling the app. You can also disable tracking and review what data is shared through your device's privacy settings.
Children's privacy
ReelShort Maker & Saver is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect more personal information from them than is required for the app's basic functionality.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
